The current practical motorcycle test came into force in 2009 as a result of EU directive. In addition to the existing on road element there was added a 20 minute off road element, the Module 1. The illustrations above show what is required. The test is therefore in two parts and the tests are taken on separate days. During the Mod 1, 4 manoeuvres are carried out at slow speed and 3 at higher speeds. In two of the higher speed manoeuvres, the emergency brake and the hazard avoidance, a speed of 50 km/h (32mph) has to be achieved. The Module 1 is designed to be difficult and the candidate will be required to demonstrate a good level of skill and confidence. It is anticipated that most students will require 8 - 10 hours training. Unfortunately there are no Module 1 facilities in the Whitby / Scarborough area and our nearest Module test centres are Darlington and Gateshead. Module 2 test take place at Scarborough. Module 2 tests involve an accompanied road ride lasting approximately 45 minutes during which a number of different roads and hazards will be encountered.
